New forward gear ratio with the 6:1 gears installed
The math said the new forward gear ratio would be close to 9:1. Now that the 6:1 gears are installed, I wanted to see what the new forward gear ratio really is going to be.
I started with the keyway of the input shaft in this position:
And made an alignment mark on the differential gear and case:
I rotated the input shaft counter-clockwise and and stopped when my alignment marks met back up. I was just shy of completing 9 rotations on the input shaft. So the actual ratio is just a little over 9:1. That should work out perfect for what I’m building.
