Shouldn’t have left gas sitting in the tank . . .

I haven’t been riding since mid-May and made 2 big mistakes.  First I didn’t drain the gas from the tank and the carb.  2nd mistake was storing the bike in the basement.

These mistakes were brought to my attention at 5 am one morning as I woke up to the smell of stale gas in the house.  I finally made my way down to the basement to find the gas tank empty with gas all over the floor.

Here was the culprit:

Several days later once I got the smell of gas under control, I needed to address the bike.

Trip to the auto parts store to pick-up this:

I’ve cut better gaskets before, but it will work:

As I removed the bowl of the Lectron to drain the old gas, I identified that the foam filter/stabilizer doesn’t like sitting in gas for 5 months:

I was finally going riding in a few days and wouldn’t have time to get replacements from Lectron, so I started looking through my miscellaneous parts containers.  I got lucky and had a bronze filter that seemed to fit perfectly:

Got everything back together and all set for Saturday’s ride.
