18″ rear tire

I started the 18″ conversion with a set of KDX rims I got on eBay.  After getting a stainless steel spoke set and new tube, I was ready to get started.

Obviously the first step was getting the old rim off.

Then it was time to start lacing up the 18″ rim with the new spokes.

Once all the spokes were on and nipples were threaded on 3-4 revolutions, it was time to start truing up the wheel.  Using an old frame and swingarm worked well.

While I had the wheel off, I decided to replace the bearings.

No real surprise that they didn’t come packed with very much grease.

After packing them properly with waterproof grease, the ‘new’ rear tire is on the bike.
